AMENDMENT OF THE GUIDELINE OF SERVICES AND PROCESSES FOR ESTIMATING FEES FOR REGISTERED PERSONSThe Engineering Council of South Africa, on the 23 May 2013 resolved to amend the Guideline Scope of Services and Tariff of Fees, Board Notice 201 of 2012 published on the 7 December 2012 ,because the building structure tariffs published in the said board notice were inadvertently low relative to the previous year’s and needed to be adjusted. Therefore Board Notice 201 of 2012 has been repealed. ECSA GAUTENG ROADSHOW – 28 MAY 2013The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) hosted a roadshow at the Southern Sun OR Tambo hotel, Gauteng on 28 May 2013. The main objective of the event was to communicate ECSA strategic positioning to its valued Gauteng stakeholders. The roadshow attracted over 140 delegates from industry, government and the academic fraternity. ECSA Repositioning Strategy, the Presidential Infrastructure Initiative, the Engineering Education Summit, the Thoughtleadership Forum as well as Registration and Candidacy matters were core issues discussed. Mr Edgar Sabela, Executive: Strategic Services was the programme director on the night of the event. Key speakers were ECSA President, Mr Cyril Gamede, ECSA Vice-President, Mr Adrian Peters, ECSA CEO, Dr Oswald Franks and ECSA Council member and Central Registration Committee Chairperson, Dr Titus Mathe. DRAFT INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT BILL - INVITATION TO COMMENTIn the State of the Nation Address made by President Zuma on 14 February 2013, the President announced that government has published an Infrastructure Development Bill for public comment. The Engineering Council will be compiling a consolidated submission on behalf of all its stakeholders. We therefore invite all stakeholders to submit representation or comments in connection with the Draft Bill by no later than 17h00 on 15 March 2013. REVISION OF TRANSITION PLAN FOR THE NEW REGISTRATION SYSTEMThe date of introduction of the New Registration System for Candidate and Professional Engineers had originally been announced as 1 November 2012. Due to a number of operational reasons, the transition arrangements have been revised to 1 April 2013. In addition, Council has given applicants the option of continuing to apply using the existing documentation and being assessed against the existing requirements in policy document R2/1A section 5 until 31 March 2015 (the Legacy System). ECSA ANNOUNCES 5 NEW ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY QUALIFICATION STANDARDSECSA has developed a new suite of engineering technology qualification standards to fulfill the educational qualification requirements for registration as a Candidate or Professional Engineering Technician or Technologist. All institutions offering engineering technology qualifications in South Africa will gradually phase in these new standards.
ECSA KZN ROADSHOWThe Engineering Council hosted a roadshow in KZN on 27 November 2012 to communicate its strategic positioning to its stakeholders in KZN. APPOINTMENT OF NEW COUNCIL MEMBERS BY THE MINISTEROn the 31st of January 2012, the Honourable Minister of Public Works, Mr T.W. Nxesi, appointed forty two (42) persons as members to the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).On the 16 May 2012 a further seven (7) members were appointed by the Minister. In the past ECSA refunded the full application fee when an application was either withdrawn by the applicant or closed by the registration department due to incomplete information being submitted, and only if the application was handled administratively and not yet referred to a registration committee. Due to administrative costs, ECSA will now only refund 50% of the amount paid towards application fees in such cases. The new system comes into effect with all applications received as from 1 January 2011.
ATTENTION ALL FOREIGN APPLICANTSIf you are in possession of a FOREIGN QUALIFICATION you MUST complete the Foreign Qualification Assessment form first, in order to have your qualification evaluated for registration purposes. Please DO NOT complete a Registration form directly, as this will delay your application from being considered. However, this is not applicable for educational qualifications covered by a Mutual Exemption Agreement, an approved International Register or the Washington, Sydney or Dublin Accords.PLEASE NOTE:
As ECSA receives numerous requests from applicants who hold foreign qualifications, we advise that requests for letters to Home Affairs for your Quota Work Permit can only be accepted on a Tuesday and Thursday between 10am – 12pm. If you submit a request on a Tuesday, then your letter will be ready for collection on a Thursday, during the stipulated time. If your request is received on a Thursday, then the letter will be ready for collection on the following Tuesday.
