Mr Madikane is the President of the
Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)’s Seven-Term Governing Council. He
served as the Vice President of the Six-Term Governing Council. He boasts over 25 years
of experience in the engineering industry and specialises in energy management,
power engineering and project management. He has been registered as a Professional Engineer
with ECSA since 2000.
His contribution to the industry has been recognised by various
organisations, earning him accolades from the engineering fraternity, including
the Engineer of the Year Award by the South African Institute of Electrical
Engineers (SAIEE) in 2006, the 2017 Honorary Fellowship Award from the
Mangosuthu University of Technology as well as the 2019 SAIEE Engineering
Excellence Award.
Mr Madikane’s journey of ploughing back to the profession began in 2005, where he served on various ECSA
structures as Chairperson of the Registration Committee of Professional
Engineers, Chairperson of the Professional Advisory Committee for Electrical
Engineering, Chairperson of Continuing Professional Development Committee, Visit
Leader, Deputy Visit Leader, Team Leader and Team Member for various accreditation
visits to mention the few. Since 2016, he has played a pivotal role at the
international level and has been a Review Team Chair for the Washington Accord
and International Professional Engineers Agreement Reviews, representing the
International Engineering Alliance (IEA).
He has previously served
on various Boards and Councils including being a Board Member at Umhlathuze
Water, a Council Member and EXCO at the Council for the Built Environment (CBE),
a Member of the Industry Advisory Board for the Faculty of Engineering and the
Built Environment at the University of Johannesburg, a Council Member at the
University of Zululand and Chairperson of Planning and Infrastructure Committee
of Council and Council Member for the KZN, Human Resource Development Council.
He played a significant role in the voluntary association space,
having served as a SAIEE’s student chapter at then University of Natal,
Chairperson of SAIEE KZN Centre and eventual being the President of SAIEE in 2016.
He is currently the
Managing Director of a Consulting firm established in 1999 and the orginasation
has a national footprint. He is also the President of the South African Academy
of Engineering and a Member of the IEA
Governing Group.
Mr Madikane holds a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, a
Diploma in Project Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management and
a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Corporate Profile of Marcia Retlogetšwe Maidi Pr Eng

Marcia Retlogetšwe Maidi is a highly experienced Professional
Structural Engineer with expertise in the fields of infrastructure asset
management and dam safety. With nearly 20 years professional
experience, she currently leads a multidisciplinary technical team
responsible for managing a critical large and complex network of
water distribution assets at Rand Water, South Africa’s largest water
utility. She is also serving on the 7th Term Council of the Engineering
Council of South Africa (ECSA) following a nomination by the
Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.
She has also played leading design roles in award-winning infrastructure projects, including the
210 Mℓ Vlakfontein post-tensioned potable water reservoir, which received a commendation at
the prestigious 2023 South African Fulton Awards for excellence in concrete design, use, and
innovation. Her leadership extends beyond engineering design to include strategy, compliance,
risk management, and long-term infrastructure planning.
She actively engages in the advancement of the engineering profession through various
initiatives including mentorship and participation in public discourse on topical matters such as
professionalism in the public sector. Marcia holds BScEng and MScEng degrees in Civil
Engineering both from WITS University and continues to engage in and advocate for continuing
professional development in various ways including attendance and presentation at international
conferences and workshops. She is registered as a professional engineer with ECSA and a
member of SAICE.
She has further been nominated as the Vice President of this Governing Council, a testament to
her leadership, expertise, and impact within the engineering fraternity.
